I am excited to hear about this from those of you who went to the midnight show...

I swung by the theater a little after 7 to pick up my ticket (which I had preordered) for the movie. I was half-surprised to see a line already formed. There
were at least 50 people waiting to get in. This didn't make any sense to me. All three screens were sold out. So these people HAD tickets. Why wait?
It's not like there are REALLY good seats or bad seats in a theater. Whatever. I wasn't doing that. So I got my ticket and went to my parents'
house for supper and to watch "Grey's Anatomy."
Around 11:15, I decided to head to the theater. Mostly, this was so my mom could go to bed without feeling guilty. I was pleased to see they'd already seated my show when I got there. So I got to go right in, and there are bonuses to flying solo --- I found a seat without problem. Now, if I'd been with a friend, I would have been much harder pressed to find a spot to sit with them. Okay, so maybe THAT'S why everyone waited. Whatever. I was amused at the makeup of the crowd. Mostly girls in their twenties. A few women my age and older. And, yes, even a few guys. While I was standing in line to get a soda, I heard a guy behind me talking about the characters. The girl with him hadn't read the books, but he was way into it. He saw a girl with a "Team Edward" shirt on and he said, "Team Edward? Whatever. Jacob's better. Well...Edward's pretty cool, but Jacob is a better representation of me." The girl with him couldn't have been less interested. She responded with, "I've only read one chapter and Edward came off like an ass, so I don't like him." Ooooookkaaaaaayy. There were some great previews before the movie. I actually want to see a few of them. Except for that "Unborn" one. Ew. I think I'll skip it. I really want to see "Four Christmases" though. Like really. And now I can't remember the names of the others I want to see. The entire theater cheered when "Twilight" began. They "oohed" and "ahhed" and squealed and giggled when various characters came on screen. I have to admit, Kristen Stewart is exactly how I pictured Bella. Billy Burke is a GREAT Charlie. Robert Pattinson is fantastic as Edward. I've never found him attractive before, but in this....mmm. Jacob is also exactly how I pictured him. As were Alice and Rosalie. Jasper and Emmet were a bit different, so were Carlisle and Esme. But they worked. Overall, I really really liked the movie. I'd see it again. The book is better, of course, but the movie is a pretty good adaptation. And I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't feel rushed. It's hard to squeeze a 500-page book into two hours, but they managed to do it. Of course there are some inconsistencies between the book and the movie. Most them, I think, were made for time constraints. Also, there are plenty reminders that you're watching a movie aimed at teens -- plenty of awkwardness and angst. Some of the special effects are a bit unbelievable. As in, not very good. But, all in all, I loved it. - Micah

I didn't think it was that bad. Then again, maybe I had different expectations.

I thought the acting was absolute shit, but by far the worst part was the score. I mean really? It was like we were trapped in some teen slasher movie the
whole time. Plus, I could hear Robert Pattinson's accent the whole time, and he looked constipated the whole time, and Jasper looked like.... oh god I
can't even talk about Jasper.
The entire movie theater was LAUGHING the entire time. In parts that in no way shape or form supposed to be funny. It was all just ridiculous. They tried to make something that is WAY too commercial and popular into some weird indie film, which just doesn't work at all for something this huge. The best part about the movie was the Harry Potter trailer at the beginning.

They didn't use a large budget, thus the indie look. I wasn't sure about Jasper either. But...he's a secondary character in this chapter, so it
doesn't really matter.

Umm the meadow scene? WTF??

Oh right, when they splashed him with leftover glitter from a John Mayer fan puff paint shirt and he yelled at her while looking constipated the whole time?

That doesn't sound too promising. Maybe I'll just wait for the dvd...

I still think it's all about expectations. Or maybe I just have shitty taste in movies. That could be true.

I get upset when movies deviate from the books when they don't have to. Like for example, the meadow. They just lie on the ground and stare at each other.
What about her tracing her fingers on his arm? Or him listening to her heart beat?
I also thought that there was no visible progression of them falling in love. I know in the book, it all seems to move kind of fast, but at least you see their relationship progressing. In the movie it's like, oh hey I'm in Port Angeles. Now I'm ignoring you again, BAM WE ARE IN LOVE. The end.

That was my problem exactly, BFF.
There was absolute ZERO progression. It went from them not speaking to being in love in like one scene. I was talking to my friends that had never read the book that went to the movie with me, and they didn't get the whole Edward thing. I didn't love him in the movie. There was like no character behind it. They never really went into the development of their relationship at all, which is what made you love Edward in the books. Ugh. I wish I didn't hate the movie so much. Haha.

Hahaha dude I get into an in depth Twilight movie hate discussion at least twice a day with various people.

I was forced into going to see this movie. Not too shabby, not sure what to think of the "sparkle-skin" and use of the word "gosh" on the
big screen, otherwise ok.

Matt - You still haven't posted any pics of your attempts at Cullen hair :-)

I just decide that looks-wise, Demi Lovato would make a good Bella. Not personality/acting-wise because Demi is way too bubbly, but I think she is much more
what I pictured rather than Kristen Stewart.

Ooohhh!!! I'd love to see an attempt at "Cullen" hair. Personally, I liked the movie, but it would be nice if some of the special effects are
better next time around since it's going to have a bigger budget!
Damn fraggles, always eating our structures. |
